A powerful film that takes place exclusively in a jury room. The jury room becomes exceedingly claustrophobic. The jury of twelve men debate the fate of the defendant. The disparate personalities of the jury created one of the most iconic courtroom films ever.
Cano has given these jurors a personality, but not one identifiable by actor. The intense and gorgeous color, with the muscular architecture of the portrait makes an incredibly moving collection of paintings.
In these works, one sees Cano’s creative process. The bold outlines of each angry man create an intimacy that is seen through an outsider’s lens. Cano is always searching for humanity in his characters, but in this instance, they purposely don’t quite measure up.
The twelve angry men struggle with their humanity and their differences to find a not guilty verdict. The sobering power of deciding another’s fate is successfully portrayed in the faces and postures of the jurors he has painted.
